Jean Penczar

My walks in Sabino Canyon have always been a wellspring of joy throughout my life. Over the years, I've captured the beauty of this area through photography, which serves as the foundation for my pen and ink drawings.

The early morning, with the sun's first rays illuminating the landscape, is my preferred time to explore. I am mesmerized by the dynamic interplay of light and shadow across the mountain ranges, rock formations, and cacti. The abundance of captivating scenes often makes it challenging to select my subjects. Therefore, I rely on my photographs to guide my creative process, allowing them to inspire the still-life reproductions that pay homage to the breathtaking beauty of Sabino Canyon.
